3rd Annual Swim for Strength
In Memory of Chris Miller & In Honor of Katy Burke
Please join us the evening of July 11th from 7:00PM to 11:00PM for the third annual
Swim for Strength Swim-a-thon;
An evening of reflection, remembrance, and community.
The Story Behind Swim for Strength
Swim for Strength was created in 2024 to honor the memory of Chris Miller, a beloved member of the Lansdowne Swim Club family who passed away unexpectedly in 2023.
Chris's loss deeply impacted our community and inspired us to create an event that would transform grief into action. Since its founding, Swim for Strength has remained committed to raising awareness for suicide prevention while supporting causes that have touched members of our club family.
Every lap we swim is a tribute to Chris's memory and a reminder of the importance of supporting one another while at the pool and in the community. (both in and out of the pool.)
Swim for Strength 2026: Honoring Mrs. Burke
This year's Swim for Strength is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Mrs. Burke, whose decades of dedication helped shape Lansdowne Swim Club into the community it is today.
Together with her husband and family, Mrs. Burke devoted countless years to supporting the club and helping create the close-knit community that generations of Lansdowne families have called their summer home. Her kindness, generosity, and commitment left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Following her passing earlier this year, our community wanted to celebrate her extraordinary legacy in a meaningful way. In lieu of flowers, the Burke family requested donations to the National Brain Tumor Society, a cause that became deeply personal through the journey of (pool manager and Coach) Tara Burke's nephew, Shane.
In honor of Mrs. Burke and the values she embodied, this year's Swim for Strength will support the National Brain Tumor Society while continuing our commitment to suicide prevention awareness.
As we gather on July 11, we swim in memory of Chris Miller, in honor of Mrs. Burke, and in support of families affected by mental health challenges and brain cancer.
About Chris:
A quiet, thoughtful, and kind man, Chris had a sharp, dry sense of humor and a generous spirit. He was deeply loyal, and maintained lifelong connections with a number of friends who considered him family. Chris was a good man, a master of focus, meticulous, hard working, and filled with a passionate, deep caring. His absence is felt every day by his family and friends, and he will be profoundly missed forever.
